Liffey God - Legend has it that the Liffey is the oldest river in Ireland. In the 9th century the Vikings established a thriving trading centre in the area known as Dubh Linn - the black pool. This eventually grew into the Norse kingdrom of Dublin and our city was born

The Normans - (Rampant Lion) by the time of the Norman invasion in 1170, Dublin had grown into a walled city. Dublin Castle was built on the instructions of the English King John and was completed around 1215. It remained the seat of English rule in Ireland until 1922

Trinity College - Book of Kells - Construction of trinity collage commenced in 1592 under a charter provided by Queen Elizabeth 1 of England. It is the oldest university in these Islands. In it’s 400 plus history many famous names have lectured and studied in its halls and libraries. The most famous name and certainly the most priceless icon to be found there is the Book of Kells.

Guinness (Tankard) - In 1759 Arthur Guinness leased a tract of land at Saint James Gate where he established his world famous brewery. The lease for this land does not expire until 10759, 89 which gives the world another 8700 years to enjoy this famous beer.

Irish Writers (Quill) - Dublin has produced many fine writers whose influence on English language and literature had been enormous. Today their ghosts can be felt in the museums, bookshops, sculptures and pubs throughout Dublin.

Cross Guns - On Easter Sunday 1916 a group of rebels led by James Connelly and Padraig Pearse occupied the General Post Office in what was then Sackville Street. The subsequent fighting and political upheaval started off a chain of events, which resulted in the formation of the Irish Free State

Dublin Crest (Three Castles) - with the signing of the Treaty of Independence in 1922, Dublin became the capitol of the Irish Free State. The first government sat in the Round Room of the Mansion House, Dawson Street. This building is now the residence of Dublin’s Lord Mayor and the three-castle crest of the city can be seen over the main entrance.
